Born in Torino (Turin), Italy, on February 6, 1948. Degrees in Physics (1972) and Mathematics (1974), University of Turin. Ph. D. in Mathematics (1980), University of London (U.K.) King's College. Fulbright Grantee in the USA (1977) 1985-2004: 20 years spent at Alenia Spazio S.p.A. in Turin working on scientific space missions. On 2001/9/8 asteroid (11264) Claudiomaccone so named in his honor by the International Astronaomical Union. 2009: his book "Deep Space Flight & Communications: exploiting the sun as a gravitational lens" is published. 2010-present: Director for Scientific Space Exploration of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA, Paris). 2012-present: Chair of the IAA SETI Permanent Committee. 2012: his book "Mathematical SETI" is published. He has published over 100 scientific papers, mainly in Acta Astronautica and in the International Journal of Astrobiology.
